On Thurs 2nd June, we present Glasgow-based dark folk rock trio Sparrow and The Workshop at South Street arts centre in Reading. The band releases their new album ‘Spitting Daggers’ on May 23rd through Distiller Records. The album was produced and mixed at the new recording studio, The Distillery, by Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno / Sam Amidon).
Their first full-length album ‘Crystals Fall’ was released in April 2010 by Distiller Records to critical acclaim. Clash Magazine called it “a brilliant debut album that will be hard to beat in 2010”, Mojo said “ignore them if you dare”, and Drowned in Sound said of the album “Everything on Crystals Fall is delivered with such an assured, singular vision and a palpable and completely admirable disregard for trends, fads and fashions that it’s impossible not to fall in love with it”.
Following the albums April release, the band completed a UK Tour supporting the Scottish band Idlewild and then crossed the English channel to support American psych-rockers the Brian Jonestown Massacre on their European tour in May. They played the BBC Introducing tent at Glastonbury Festival in 2009 and are gearing up to do a string of festivals this summer.
The band recently recorded BBC sessions for 6 Music and Radio 1.
